So, You Want a Dane?

If You Can Say "YES" To These Questions....
Then you might want a dane.
Are you prepared for how large these dogs will eventually be?
Are you willing to spend a fortune on the well-being for these dogs?
Are you willing to see your nice leather sofa full of scratches?
Are you willing to not thaw meat on the counter-tops anymore? (Have to laugh at this one!)
Are you willing to walk around looking like a drool rag?
Are you willing to walk around with dane fur and dirty pawprints all over you? (Hey, it's not the dane's fault you were too slow to catch the paw first!!!!)

If You Say "NO" To These Questions,
Then PLEASE Don't Get a Dane...
Are you willing to keep the dog in the house?
Are you willing to treat this dog as if it were a child? (Trust me, they think they are!)
Are you willing to safety proof your home as you would a child, including protecting your dog from the children and vice versa (PLEASE DO NOT GET A DANE -or any dog-  IF YOU CANNOT TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO RESPECT IT!!)
Are you willing to exercise your dog every day and take care to ensure it never runs free (There is already a growing amount of bad publicity for our beloved breed, please don't add to it by allowing your dane to roam free!!)
Are you willing to spend money to ensure your dane gets the BEST of everything (No Ol' Roy for this breed!!)
Are you willing to move over at 2 in the morning when your dane has decided YOU have the best bed in the house (Because they will..better be prepared)
And speaking of prepared, are you prepared for the amount of damage an unproperly trained dane can do?
And speaking of training, are you willing to train your dane? If not, PLEASE choose a lap dog or something you can keep in your house AWAY from the rest of us at all times.

Great Dane - The Model Of Nobility
by: Jill Swedlow

This is a book no dane owner should ever be without. Jill Swedlow (the author) is the owner/breeder of some amazing great danes. I personally view her as a great source of knowledge and information. She has bred for comformation, temperament, and longevity in her lines and her dogs are awesome. The hardcopy version of this book is no longer available, however Jill Swedlow has made this entire book available on her website, at no charge to you.

If you do not own a dane and are considering one...GET THIS BOOK. It's an honest, very real portrayal of what dane ownership truly means.
